Tanago rod latest

Ready to start lacquering the body of the rod (it already has the ground layer on in the photo).  However, before I started on the next stage, I needed to do some serious work that I do not possess the tools for, so I went to my teacher’s workshop.  Most traditional Japanese freshwater rods, unencumbered by guides or reel seats, utilise the hollow nature of bamboo: the thinner and more delicate pieces fit inside the larger, for protection and ease of carrying.

The rod can be carried as a convenient three pieces, small enough to fit in your top pocket, and all that remains is to fashion small bamboo caps that fit into the open ends.
