The flowers were not quite in full bloom, but it was otherwise nice to see old friends again and enjoy a trip out on the water. The tide was a spring one and in full flood when we arrived in Asakusa, so we were subjected to more than the usual pitching on the way out and treated to the very unusual spectacle of dropping single anchor heading downstream.
The rather phallic and highly incongruous Tokyo Sky Tree – which appeared to have weathered the March 11th earthquake without consequence – proved more diverting than the sakura flowers themselves.
As always the food was quite excellent, the karaoke execrable, and the beer and strong spirits in great supply. I baked a carrot cake for afters which seemed to go down quite well, although it disappeared before I could photograph it.
