Japanese plums

The ume plums have come out very early this year.  Aside from disturbing a giant hornet that nearly made me fall off my step ladder, I managed to pick about 3 kilograms without much effort.  There is still a lot of green fruit on the tree and I will have a go at taking some of those when they have ripened a bit more.  The plums will be pickled in salt over the next week as the first step in making the traditional Japanese foodstuff umeboshi.
